What's Broken
Housing is supposed to be a foundation. Instead, it has become the world's largest financial asset; engineered over decades by investors, corporations, and the governments that enabled them to generate wealth for a few at the expense of everyone else. The homelessness crisis, the affordability crisis, the climate crisis: they aren't separate failures. They are the predictable outcomes of a system working exactly as designed.
What We're Doing
The Shift works with governments, communities, and advocates around the world to reorient housing around people rather than profit. We build the research, frameworks, and political tools needed to challenge financialization, uphold human rights, and change the rules that make the current system possible.
